oven-baked vegetables – leftovers …

What to do w/ leftovers? For a dinner event during weekend I prepared lots of oven-baked vegetables. It was delicious accompanied by some chicken filled w/ lemons & rosemary, a generous mix of fresh basil leaves & pressed garlic under the skin for especially flavoring the chicken breasts. (Maybe you think that the vegetables accompanied the chicken …) We all enjoyed the dinner …, however, some of the oven-baked vegetables remained on their plate afterwards…

zucchini carpaccio

The Italians invented aperitivo. When staying in Milan as well as in Rome some years ago we were happy about aperitivo. It starts in late afternoon & let you have some wine or Spritz or cocktails together w/ a selection of savory bits & bites usually presented as a buffet. Until early evening you may indulge in drinks & food … You get prosciutto, salame, green & black olives, marinated vegetables, small tramezzini, pizza bits, salads ……

a big potato salad w/ mediterranean touch

Is there any surprise in a potato salad? Yes: you may add Mediterranean herbs for a delicious summer & holiday flavour … Some years ago I made this potato salad rather spontaneously because suddenly all the rainy weather in Germany cleared up & sun came back w/ fine temperatures fit for some last BBQ events in the garden. … & a real bit potato salad is always one of the best companions around (together w/…

montpellier & pasta salad

When we started our trip to Southern France, end of 2022, we made a stop-over in Montpellier. If you like details: we arrived in the afternoon of 30th of December, stayed in Montpellier for New Year’s Eve and restarted to Carcassone on 1st of January. I remember that it was rather cold and rainy … except of New Year’s Day when suddenly the sun appeared on a blue sky. We then enjoyed a lazy coffee…

roasted & creamed aubergine … in southern france

My standard information nowadays … We are still in Southern France resp. Northern Spain … It is hot, really hot … & for dinner it’s most of the days a cold affair: fresh bread, ham, cheese … & some dip (or more than a single dip!). So I remembered my aubergine dip … In the past: Aubergines (aka eggplant) & I – we did never become close friends. I’m fond of beautiful aubergines, but coming…

green beans w/ tuna cream in southern france

As I start usually these days … we are still in Southern France. However, we moved from Carcassonne to Sérignan meaning from Languedoc into Hérault approaching also the Mediterranean coast. For statistics: Carcassone is a town of about 47.000 inhabitants while Sérignan has got about 8.000 people i. e. a village. So now we are living in a small townhouse near the centre of the village – and enjoy the daily noisette resp. glass of…

toulouse & salad days

We made a trip (resp. some trips) to Toulouse from Carcassonne. It’s quite easy: take a SNCF train to cover the distance of about 100 km within 42 min. So you are transferred from downtown Carcassonne (i. e. La Bastide) to downtown Toulouse. One of the striking features of Toulouse is La Garonne flowing mightily, but smooth like a mirror straight through the city. Some impressive bridges control the traffic e. g. the Pont Neuf…

once again – tomato sauce

What happened some time ago? My food blog came into life in 2015 – long ago. About 2 years ago or so I realized that there were (too!) many posts w/ lots of photos requiring more & more storage making e. g. updates of the data base somewhat tricky. So I decided to do an internal review resulting in deleting quite a lot of posts & trimming down my blog. (To be honest: when starting…

insalata caprese i. e. simply caprese

It’s still winter, the nights are bitterly cold under a clear sky w/ sparkling stars while during the day the sun tries to warm up the air. So – the mood is full of spring … This morning I was outside walking for almost an hour in this fresh crispy air invigorating my body & soul. What to eat? I wasn’t up for any elaborate cooked meal, but longed for some freshness on my table.…

stocking up on tomato sauce

Dieser Beitrag enthält Werbung – adverstising. This photo w/ fresh pasta & my home-made tomato sauce is real & up-to-date w/ this post. It is one of the most trivial photos in the food blogging universe (I think). It is simple: apart from cooking pasta – I always use classic Italian pasta made only from flour (durum wheat) & water – you only need a good tomato sauce & all is fine. A photo presenting…

lasagna & leftovers or approaching meal prep

Dieser Beitrag enthält Werbung – advertising.   The lasagna in the photo above seems a little … yes: it’s leftovers after a night in the fridge – waiting to be reheated in the microwave. So far the photo …   For the record: Storing leftovers of a lasagna in the fridge & reheating – if oven, if microwave – doesn’t do any harm to the flavors & the deliciousness!   During the week I started preparing…

roasted red pepper pasta

Dieser Beitrag enthält Werbung – advertising.   I always prepare tomato sauce during spring and summer w/ lots of fresh tomatoes roasted in the oven until a really soft mess. This tomato sauce is best for any pasta as well as vegetables or meat. You may produce quite a lot & store it in containers in your fridge for some days or even put to 2-3 weeks – be sure: it won’t last so long. What…

what to do w/ burrata?

Dieser Beitrag enthält Werbung – advertising.   2019 is almost finished. We are in this time of the year between Xmas holidays & New Year’s celebrations when nobody is quite sure about the weekday, the fridge is full & empty at the same time – it’s leftover feasting. Everybody indulged in too many Xmas treats, if sweet, if savory. So now I thought it’s time to add some fresh, quick salad to our meal plan.…

leftover mess w/ greens…

Dieser Beitrag enthält Werbung – advertising.   How to start? In one of my new cookbooks I found a short recipe. It’s Giulia Scarpaleggia’s cookbook from her food blog Jul’s Kitchen about the markets of Tuscany. The recipe describes a nice snack for happy hour or as a side dish for dinner… The main ingredients are bread, wine & cheese.     So I remembered this approach when thinking about a light dinner. I had…
