an array of coleslaw

What to do w/ a giant cabbage?(I admit: normally I only buy small heads of cabbage fitting for my better half & me, but then… there were only rather big heads on offer, so I decided to prepare a small variety of coleslaw!)I ended up w/ 4 types of coleslaw! Based on the size of my cabbage I rounded up all the necessary ingredients for: However, let’s start w/ preparing the basic coleslaw…

green peas & green spinach leaves

It’s mid of November: all over the internet food blogs indulge in Xmas cookies, Xmas cakes, Xmas whatever – Xmas dinner suggestions didn’t surface until now. I’m not so ready for this Xmas business at the moment … I think some fresh & easy to prepare weeknight dinner is also appropriate. I also didn’t start any Xmas baking so far. I’m not in Xmas mood so early in November – although everywhere in food stores…

oven-baked vegetables – leftovers …

What to do w/ leftovers? For a dinner event during weekend I prepared lots of oven-baked vegetables. It was delicious accompanied by some chicken filled w/ lemons & rosemary, a generous mix of fresh basil leaves & pressed garlic under the skin for especially flavoring the chicken breasts. (Maybe you think that the vegetables accompanied the chicken …) We all enjoyed the dinner …, however, some of the oven-baked vegetables remained on their plate afterwards…

a big potato salad w/ mediterranean touch

Is there any surprise in a potato salad? Yes: you may add Mediterranean herbs for a delicious summer & holiday flavour … Some years ago I made this potato salad rather spontaneously because suddenly all the rainy weather in Germany cleared up & sun came back w/ fine temperatures fit for some last BBQ events in the garden. … & a real bit potato salad is always one of the best companions around (together w/…

avocado goes for dressing … in the south

Potato salad is down-to-earth … so down-to-earth … Time to get it dressed to kill by adding an avocado dressing! Potatoes are year-round vegetables & avocados are on their way. What do you think of replacing mayonnaise and/or double cream and/or sour cream by a real heap of mashed avocado? This was my vision when creating this very special potato salad some years ago. We are still in the South aka Mediterranean area … having…

green beans w/ tuna cream in southern france

As I start usually these days … we are still in Southern France. However, we moved from Carcassonne to Sérignan meaning from Languedoc into Hérault approaching also the Mediterranean coast. For statistics: Carcassone is a town of about 47.000 inhabitants while Sérignan has got about 8.000 people i. e. a village. So now we are living in a small townhouse near the centre of the village – and enjoy the daily noisette resp. glass of…

lettuce leaves & leaf salad

This is a very short post. First of all it’s mid of May & we’ve got some sort of a heat wave – it’s about 30° C! Therefore cooking or balking something for long hours isn’t so attractive. Secondly a heat wave cries for easy refreshing dishes – like salads. My better half & I are very fond of leaf salads. We like it not only during summer or heat waves, but throughout the whole…

nice’ salad aka salade niçoise

Dieser Beitrag enthält Werbung – advertising.   My better half & I had friends invited for dinner – & it was about 30° C & more. What to do? BBQ – well, yes, but somebody (i. e. my better half) would have to be on the deck, managing the BBQ for some hours while the sun would burn merciless. (Our terrace is south/south-west bound!) We skipped this approach & opted for a French evening w/…

leftover mess w/ greens…

Dieser Beitrag enthält Werbung – advertising.   How to start? In one of my new cookbooks I found a short recipe. It’s Giulia Scarpaleggia’s cookbook from her food blog Jul’s Kitchen about the markets of Tuscany. The recipe describes a nice snack for happy hour or as a side dish for dinner… The main ingredients are bread, wine & cheese.     So I remembered this approach when thinking about a light dinner. I had…
