Last March my better half & I went to Majorca for the whole month. We enjoyed an easy stay enjoying daily life, occasional trips across the island … and we also liked to visit beaches. To be honest it was rather cold and rainy sometimes, we didn’t walk or even dash into the water even if there was some blue sky …
In general the beaches were empty – almost no people, nearly no tourists, off and on some lonely strollers who belong to the happy people able to stay during winter in warmer regions.
We loved to approach a beach, do some walking, admiring the blue waters and the waves – and just relax somewhat. Also we compared theoretically the beaches of March with the beaches in summer – if as watch by ourselves or seen on photos. The difference is astonishing.
The photo above shows the famous Playa de Muro in the north-east. It’s a beach with fine white sand, slowly shelving into the water. Part of the coast belongs to Parc natural de s’Albufera, a nature reserve. There fore there are no hotels or block of flats at the coast. Beyond the nature reserve, of course, there are … empty except of legions of craftsmen and cleaning crews busy with preparing all the accommodations for the approaching hot season.

A trip to Cala Sant Vicenç in the north with a small beach dominated by a large resort shows more than emptiness because not even any people seem to be busy preparing for the summer. Obviously the season will start here somewhat later, or?

I always loved Es Trenc. When approaching in March the vast parking area was almost empty, but had large puddles covering almost half of the area. Also the beach seemed filthy …. with lots of damp seaweed.
In summer and autumn I remember the white sand and soft waves …

After a nice stroll around Santanyi on the south coast and a coffee on the plaza we made it to Cala Santanyi, a beautiful, rather small bay with a sandy beach at its end. Surprisingly there some people – grownups of course – even dared to run into the water … well, the sky was light blue and there was some sun.
Of course it’s always better when blue sky and sunshine co-operate. All photos, especially of beaches, are much more appealing …

Also on the south coast not far from Cala Santanyi is Cala Llombards, another small beach waiting for its share of residents and tourists. You may see at once what a difference a little sunshine makes …

The rocky beach front of Colònia de Sant Pere in the north-east is – I think – more attractive for a photo when there is some sort of rough weather.
I stored quite a lot of photos … beaches … coasts … of much more spots around the island. I like the emptiness as well as the silence of the coastlines, the empty cafés … and boulevards.
Let’s finish this post with Platja del Port de Pollença.
