A village on Mallorca …
My better half & I do sightseeing in Mallorca for quite a while now and we came across some villages. When talking about a village I think of small cities with about 3000 … 5000 inhabitants somewhere on the island. Of course there is a center meaning that there is a Plaça Major with a church and some cafés, some bars, restaurants …
When looking for some information I found – as a rule – that the village is mentioned for the 1st time around the 13th century – and of course the church was founded around this time. So we find always rather old walls with a clocktower, not sophisticated, but beautiful in their mightiness.
Close to the church residential house cluster tightly packed with small alleyways in between. To be honest it’s a nightmare when driving a car. Therefore a maze of one-way streets tries to solve the traffic mess. The alleyways are narrow and there is no sideway, sometimes at least some sort of sideway where one person – only one – may walk. in a certain way you imagine that there is a time-shift into the Middle Ages or sometime near this period.
Nevertheless we like these villages especially when having found a café or bar where to enjoy some café con leche or espresso aka café solo, some cool beer or a glass of wine … accompanied by some tapas always alfresco of course. Some of the villages elaborated the idea of a pedestrian area around the church; so you’ll find a mix of food & drinks providers and small shops of any kind.
I just like to present some photos of these villages I took whenever it seemed to be a nice motif – meaning I won’t do any short portraits of special villages.
